Wool Works Magazine

Congratulations to Melanie Pinney on her launch of the premier issue of http://www.woolworksmagazine.com/ … which should be arriving in mailboxes all over the country in the next couple days. What? Not in yours? That’s easy to solve … there’s still time to subscribe.

Melanie, creator and editor, has poured herself into this project, and from cover to cover, it shows. Terrific job, Melanie!

I was very delighted when asked, last summer, to contribute a project … specifically a “wool quilt.” To be sure, I’d never done a quilt before … the majority of my work is in wall hangings and pieces for the table. But it didn’t take long for the idea of the end result to start forming in my mind. I love history … I love authentic penny rugs. So I hope you enjoy this interpretation of “wool quilt” … a 61″ x 21″ bed runner in colors reminiscent of the Civil War era … and named “The Emmitsburg Road,” in honor of the many thousands on both sides who gave their lives at the Battle of Gettysburg.

You will find the pattern for this bed runner in the Spring issue of Wool Works Magazine. If you are interested in purchasing a kit from me (which includes the black background wool, and all the wool fabric for the sixteen blocks and the black’n’brown border pieces), please contact me at horseandbuggycountry@gmail.com, for more information.
